The fishing towns of Ucluelet & Tofino
were our destination this year for our one-week vacation of sun and surfing.
Marilyn’s son Jonathan, a surfer, knows all the great places to go on the west
coast of Vancouver Island. We stayed in Ucluelet and drove a little north each
day to the beaches of the Pacific Rim National Park, surfing at Wickaninnish
Beach, Chesterman Beach, and Long Beach.
Checking out the fishing boats and harbor of picturesque
Ucluelet.
In the early morning, Marilyn & grandson
Edison & Duckie would go for a walk down to the harbor to check out the
boats and look for baby fish.
Marilyn’s son Jonathan surfed every day. Marilyn
managed 2-days and decided that as exciting as it was, there’s a whole new
meaning to
‘‘My aching bones”!
Duckie & Edison enjoyed playing in the
sand & sun most days.
One day we went hiking into the rainforests
of the west coast.
Following the amazing 1 km boardwalk trail down
the cliffs and through the rainforest, our destination was picturesque Schooner
Cove.
The sea life in the cove was amazing!!
It was a little chilly to be out in the surf,
but getting a picture of Duckie with the starfish was worth it!!
Duckie swimming with the sea anemones.
When the fog started to come in, the beach
began to get an eerie look to it. Reminded us of a scene from Pirates of the
Caribbean.
It was amazingly beautiful.
Heading back to the rainforest beach trail and
our car.
After an amazing week of surfing, hiking
& sightseeing, we were back on the ferry returning to the mainland and home
again.
